an ind. black canary, a.k.a. dinah drake. kinda selective & semi-private; limited activity. as portrayed by rhian & inspired by brenden fletcher's 2015 black canary with some personal canon.
& (skeleton of a) timeline / major events for my portrayal:
‘origin’ (youth to teenage years) — dinah grew up as a street kid, taken in by a man named desmond lamar who owned a dojo; in exchange for taking her in, he only asked that she assist in the building’s maintenance. after years passed, she grew to view him as a father and he’d trained her in varying martial arts. he later died in her teenage years of terminal cancer, leaving the dojo to her. even later on, in some unfortunate events, she lost the dojo and was left with nothing and so she took part in team 7.
team 7 (teenage to young adult years) — herself and (her now late husband) kurt were chosen to be a part of this team by john lynch as a means (and with the purpose of) policing metahuman threats. kurt was presumed dead during on a mission so she departed to work with the JL for awhile. this is also the timeframe i see her having been involved in waller’s program that gave her the canary cry.
justice league to birds of prey (young adult years) — her time with them was short-lived in my portrayal, she wound up moving on easily to making her own team after a frame up on her for murder. her time with the birds was also short-lived due to a handful of varying degrees of betrayal from numerous members.
black canary the band (current; i see her being mid 20′s by this point in time) — stepping away initially from the hero biz, she took on a music career and… during that time? she surprisingly found herself taking up the hero mantle when a bandmate was in trouble. she remains in the band and singing, the hero thing is a side-job now though. i am including essentially all of the details from brenden fletcher’s 2015 black canary comic for this aspect.
i know this is a touch messy but this is just the general timeline and the different ‘arcs’ i have for my dinah. some of this is subject to change or alteration with some interactions, AU’s or ship verses. these are the major aspects i am including and in some cases the timeframes will be altered — also for more description or other events, her wikia page is handy.
& can we talk about a few things that might make you say, internally, ‘step on me dinah drake’:
yes, she is the average frame, height and weight of a woman her age, but she is also able to, by DC’s canon? bench / lift at minimum her own body weight.
somewhat related to the above, she is one of the most talented martial artists on the planet; skilled in both rare and commonly known forms of martial arts.
she is considered to not simply be a strong leader, but she is said to be a brilliant strategist and tactician.
she has taken down both groups of people as well as those easily twice her size before with her fighting skills alone.
she does not need to rely on her metahuman gene that provides her ability for the canary cry (however useful it can and could be) to be of use in a fight or to any team she has been a part of.

ON ACTIVITY: as i do have other blogs, all of which are in varying states of limited or minimal activity due to life and work? this blog shall follow that as well — not to mention it will begin as a voice test.
ON SHIPPING: i don’t have a lot of ships that i am bound by in my head for dinah, just know that i view her as bisexual with a heavy leaning being borderline demisexual. i also do not see her holding a preference on gender. i am open to mutually exclusive shipping, but please do not pursue it with me if you are not okay with multiship --- my blog is not singleship.
ON STATUS IN CANON: the biggest aspect i'd like for people to remember? i am writing dinah drake, not dinah laurel lance --- in that i am not including any canon from withing the arrow universe. my portrayal is mainly that of her prime earth (or 'new 52') universe with heavy influence and inspiration drawn from her current 2015 solo run from brenden fletcher.
ON GORE / SMUT: as with all of my blogs, i’m more willing to write the prior than the latter as long as it makes sense to the interaction of our muses and or character development. the latter is something i am only really comfortable writing as implied or fade-to-black.
